Moscow sends a sharp message to Belgrade: Whoever recognizes Kosovo will not
Russian Ambassador to Belgrade, Alexander Bochan Kharchenko

Moscow has sent a coded message to Belgrade, but without a clear address.

"A man who knows Kosovo cannot stay in power in Serbia even for a day."

This was stated by the Russian Ambassador to Belgrade, Alexander Bochan Kharchenko, adding that Serbs would not understand if President Aleksandar Vučić were to impose sanctions against Russia. He recalls the statements of officials and promises that such a thing would not happen.

"A politician who would give the green light to anti-Russian sanctions and recognize Kosovo's self-proclaimed independence would not be able to survive at the helm of Serbia," the Russian ambassador said.

Kharchenko claimed that sanctions against Russia do not correspond to the mood of ordinary Serbian citizens, nor to the interests of the Serbian economy. According to him, much has been done in Serbia's economic relations with Russia and China, and key sectors of the Serbian economy depend on cooperation with Russia. This is somewhat confirmed by the issue with the Oil Industry of Serbia, NIS, jointly owned by Belgrade and Moscow.

The United States has postponed the imposition of sanctions for the sixth time by a month, while Serbia is pressured to change ownership, removing Russian shareholders from Gazprom.

The Belgrade government refuses to do anything like that, as it would be considered a kind of betrayal in economic relations by Moscow.
