The US attack on Iran appears to have been postponed, at least for the time being, following information President Trump reportedly received that Iran had stopped killing protesters and was not carrying out executions.
However, according to the New York Times, Israel and four Arab states have asked the US president to postpone the attack, which remains on the table according to a senior US official, as whether it will be ordered depends on what the Iranian security services will do next regarding the mass protests.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Trump on Wednesday, while Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Egypt, all partners of Washington, have communicated with the Trump administration in the past two days urging it not to attack Iran, an official from a Gulf Arab country said.
At the same time, these Arab countries are telling Iranian officials not to attack countries in the region if the United States decides to attack Iran, the official said.
The four nations are coordinating their messages to both Washington and Tehran, the official said.
Iran ordered the closure of its airspace to commercial flights late Wednesday, but reopened it.
Iran fired numerous ballistic missiles at Israel during the 12-day war between the two nations in June, in which the United States also participated by striking three Iranian nuclear sites. Some of the Iranian missiles bypassed Israeli air defenses and killed civilians.
