The speaker of the Iranian parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has reacted in ironic tones to the United States after reports that an American fighter jet has been shot down over Iranian territory.
In a post on the X platform, Ghalibaf wrote that “after 37 consecutive losses to Iran,” the US-initiated conflict has been reduced from “regime change” goals to the search for the missing pilots. He accompanied the response with sarcastic comments about what he described as “tremendous progress.”
His statements come after a statement by Donald Trump on March 31, where he said that a regime change has occurred in Iran and that the new leadership is "less radicalized" and more "rational."
According to the report, Ghalibaf's social media account has been more active recently, including posts with satirical content. He was last seen on Iranian state television on March 17.
Meanwhile, some unconfirmed reports suggest that the Trump administration may have considered Ghalibaf as a potential political partner, even as a potential figure in Iran's future leadership.
These claims have not been officially confirmed.
