A French container ship has passed through the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first time a ship from Western Europe has used this strategic maritime corridor since the start of the US and Israel's conflict with Iran.
According to maritime sources, the ship departed from waters near Dubai on Thursday afternoon and transmitted signals confirming French ownership. It sailed near the Iranian coast and then signaled entry into Omani waters. Various sources confirmed that the crossing was completed without incident.
Since the conflict erupted more than a month ago, traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has dropped significantly. Currently, the route is mainly used by ships with stable relations with Iran.
The passage of the French ship is considered an indication that, despite high tensions in the region, some maritime operators from Western Europe are gradually returning to this vital route for global trade.
