A US fighter jet has been shot down over Iranian territory, three US sources reported, confirming earlier reports by Iranian state media.
According to the same sources, US forces have managed to rescue one of the crew members of the downed plane. Two of them stated that the pilot is receiving medical treatment.
The status of the second crew member remains unclear. The sources stressed that search and rescue operations are still underway, while US forces have continued their efforts since the plane went down.
According to an assessment cited by CNN, such operations in a territory like Iran pose significant difficulties for survivors, due to the vast expanse and uncertainty regarding the attitude of the local population.
Meanwhile, an Israeli official confirmed to CNN that Israel has postponed some of its planned strikes on Iran on Friday in order not to interfere with search and rescue operations for the two crew members of the US plane.
Information remains limited and authorities have not yet provided full details on the circumstances of the F-15E crash.
