Francesca Romeo, a 67-year-old doctor who served as doctor on duty at Santa Cristina d'Aspromonte, in Reggino, was shot dead after an ambush.
The woman had just finished her shift and was driving back to Seminara where she lived when two people fired shots. Along with her, her husband Antonio Napoli, a 66-year-old also a doctor serving at Palmi CSM, was wounded.
According to what it turned out, two people hiding around fired at the car driven by the victim's husband when they were near a sharp bend in the road that connects Santa Cristina to Taurianova.
"What happened is shocking, a chilling ambush that takes us back to dark times," commented Pasquale Veneziano, president of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of Raggio Calabria
"We don't know what happened, if the ambush is related to work or something else. Her husband is a psychiatrist", he added.
Officers from the police station of SP Taurianova are at the scene.
Investigators from the flight team of Reggio Calabria have intervened and carried out the initial findings and are trying to reconstruct the dynamics of the event for which an investigation has been opened by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Palmi.
At the moment, investigative sources report, hypotheses about the motive of the crime cannot yet be made.
