British Prime Minister Keir Starmer held a telephone conversation with former US President Donald Trump, focusing on the tense situation in the Middle East and its impact on global trade.
According to a Downing Street spokeswoman, the two leaders specifically discussed the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important sea routes for international energy trade.
They emphasized that the disruption of maritime transport in this strategic corridor is causing increased costs in global markets.
"They discussed the importance of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to end the disruption to global shipping, which is increasing costs worldwide ," the spokeswoman said.
During the conversation, Starmer also expressed his condolences for the losses of American personnel during the conflict in the region.
"The Prime Minister expressed condolences for the American service personnel who lost their lives during the conflict," the spokeswoman added.
At the end of the call, the two leaders agreed to maintain constant contact on developments in the region.
Meanwhile, Downing Street announced that Starmer will also discuss the situation in the Middle East with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney during a meeting scheduled for tomorrow.
