A senior adviser to Donald Trump's administration has warned of the risk that Israel could consider using nuclear weapons if the conflict in the Middle East escalates further.
David Sacks, who holds the role of head of artificial intelligence and cryptocurrencies in the Trump administration, stated that a coordinated attack on Israel could create a very dangerous situation.
He warned of the dangers of an escalating approach in the war with Iran and its ally in Lebanon, Hezbollah.
“ Israel could suffer very significant damage ,” Sacks said, adding: “ And then we have to worry about the possibility that Israel will escalate the war by considering the use of a nuclear weapon .”
His statements are more cautious compared to the harsher rhetoric of Trump himself and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who have spoken of the possibility of a victory in the war against Iran, a conflict that has now entered its third week.
Meanwhile, tensions in the region are also affecting global energy markets. Amid concerns about oil supplies, Trump has said he hopes countries like China, France, Japan, South Korea and the United Kingdom will send warships to keep the Strait of Hormuz "open and safe" for shipping.
For its part, the United Kingdom has announced that it is discussing with allies a "range of options" to ensure transport security in this strategic corridor.
As Israel and the US continue to strike targets in Iran, analysts note that there is still no clear end to the conflict. At the same time, Israel has also carried out strikes on targets in Lebanon, in its confrontation with Hezbollah.
According to Sacks, a prolongation of the conflict could make the situation much more dangerous.
" It's hard to know exactly how much damage Israel is suffering right now. We're only two weeks into this war. If it continues for weeks or months, Israel could face very serious devastation ," he said.
He also added that, under these circumstances, it would be better for the conflict to end as soon as possible. “ This is a good time to declare victory and withdraw, ” he said on the All-In podcast, adding that such a development would also be positive for global markets.
