In an extraordinary meeting in Quantico, Trump and Hegseth radicalize US military policy: the end of the "woke" era and the return of iron discipline to the military...

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has held the much-discussed meeting with nearly 800 US military leaders.

Hegseth, publicly declared that the "Department of Defense" no longer exists, officially replaced by the "Department of War," following an executive order from President Donald Trump in early September.

“Our job is to prepare for war and win it,” Hegseth declared, stressing that the era of “defense” is over and the US military must return to its offensive focus. He called the moment “crucial” and warned of immediate and irreversible reforms to the internal military structure and culture.

One of the most controversial measures announced was the establishment of unified and “gender-neutral” physical standards: physical tests and combat training will be measured according to the levels of men, without exception. “If women can meet these standards, so much the better. If not, that’s not our goal, but it can happen. This also applies to weak men. We’re not playing around. This is about life and death,” he stressed.

Hegseth leveled serious charges at previous administrations, saying that irresponsible political leaders had turned the military into a “woke” institution, driven by race, gender and ideology. “We promoted people for the wrong reasons. Now we’re going to clean up the mess,” he said. He made it clear that there would be no more diversity offices, no more inclusion or “cultural identity” months. “We’re done with this s**t,” he declared bluntly.

The changes will also affect appearance and discipline: beards, long hair or "vain individual expressions" will no longer be allowed, while overweight generals are said to be "a national disgrace."

For all those who disagree with this line, Hegseth gave a clear message: "If you disagree, do the most honorable act, resign."

Donald Trump, present at the meeting, took an even more blunt stance: “If I meet any general I don’t like, I will fire him immediately.” He stressed that the US is “25 years ahead of any other country” in military technology and cited the use of a nuclear submarine as a means of repelling a brief threat from Russia: “It was invisible, deadly, and it was enough to make the threat disappear.”

This meeting, the first of its kind in decades, has raised serious concerns in military and diplomatic circles, as it could herald a radical transformation of US foreign and security policy. Some sources within the Pentagon expressed concern that the meeting could be a prelude to major cuts in the ranks of generals and admirals, with the aim of reducing their number by at least 20%.

Hegseth is also preparing a new national defense strategy, where the priority will be "internal security and defense," including the commitment of troops to the border with Mexico - a clear signal that the focus is shifting away from the global confrontation with China to return to America's domestic walls.

This is a clear message to all allies and adversaries: Trump's America will no longer play the role of international moderator. It is returning as an unstoppable military power – and this time, with the order to win. /Adapted from "Pamphlet" by "Corriere Della Sera"
