US President Donald Trump has declared that he is not communicating with Tehran after US bombers attacked Iranian nuclear facilities, stressing that he is not offering anything to Iran, contrary to the position held by former US President Barack Obama.
In an overnight post on Truth Social, the US president wrote: “I offer Iran nothing, unlike Obama who paid them billions of dollars as part of the foolish move towards a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on nuclear weapons (which would now have expired!). I haven’t even spoken to them since we completely destroyed their nuclear facilities.”
On Friday, Trump denied media reports that his administration had discussed helping Iran access up to $30 billion in funding so it could have a nuclear program to produce energy for peaceful purposes.
Recall that yesterday Tehran asked the UN to recognize Israel and the US as responsible for the 12-day war against Iran, which ended on June 24 with the implementation of a ceasefire, according to a letter published today to the UN Secretary-General.
"With this letter, we officially ask the Security Council to recognize the Israeli regime and the US as the initiators of the aggressive action and to recognize their subsequent responsibility, including the payment of compensation and reparations," writes Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in the letter to Antonio Guterres.
