Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in his first speech since the Iran ceasefire, said Israel was not surprised by the last-minute ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump. He stressed that the US ceasefire with Iran was reached in coordination with Israel, rejecting claims by the Wall Street Journal that Tel Aviv was caught off guard.
"The temporary ceasefire came in coordination with Israel; the Americans did not surprise us at the last minute ," Netanyahu said.
He noted that Israel still has other goals to achieve, including the issue of Iran's enriched uranium, which the Prime Minister stated would be achieved either through diplomacy or through force.
"This is not the end of the war, but a stop on the path to achieving all goals ," the Israeli prime minister added.
Netanyahu discussed the necessity of Operation Rising Lion and Operation Roaring Lion, stating that if neither had happened, Iran would have had a nuclear weapon long ago.
"Iran would have had thousands of missiles with which to threaten Israel. We have set the Iranian regime back many years. We did not just destroy Iran's missiles, we destroyed their ability to produce missiles. The Iranians only shot down what they had left in stock ," Netanyahu continued.
The Israeli prime minister also spoke of the strong relationship with US President Donald Trump, noting in English that Trump spoke with great respect for Israel, describing the President as having said: "You are brilliant."
"I can assure you, Trump and I talk every day and we smile at each other when we hear assessments that our relations are not good. President Trump, my friend Donald, I want to thank you for your deep friendship," Netanyahu concluded.
