Israel and the United States launched strikes against Iran on Saturday morning. In parallel with the launch of the strikes on Iran, Israel declared a state of emergency throughout the country as the attacks began, in anticipation of Iranian retaliation.
The airstrikes on Tehran come after US President Donald Trump spent weeks threatening to strike Iran over its nuclear program, and after a domestic crackdown in Iran has killed thousands of protesters.
Initially, it was said that Iran was attacked by Israel, but it was later confirmed that it was a joint American-Israeli attack.
US strikes against Iran are being carried out from the air and sea, a US official told Reuters on Saturday.
The United States is carrying out strikes on Iran, three US officials told CNN. One official said the strikes were ongoing, describing them as "not a minor attack."
The last time the United States struck Iranian soil was in June 2025, when President Donald Trump ordered warplanes to drop massive bombs on three nuclear sites inside Iran.

According to the state-run Fars news agency, attacks have been reported in the Iranian cities of Isfahan, Qom, Karaj and Kermanshah, as well as in the capital Tehran.
Israel's attack on Iran on Saturday morning was coordinated with the United States, an Israeli source told CNN.
The attack targeted ballistic missiles and rocket launchers, which Israel has seen as a serious threat.
Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is not in Tehran and has been moved to a "safe location", an Iranian official confirmed to Reuters.
Iranian media reported attacks targeting the IRGC intelligence headquarters, as well as explosions in central Tehran. The country has closed its airspace in response to the attacks.
An Israeli security official told Reuters that the operation had been planned for months and its timing had been set several weeks ago.
Sources in the defense establishment stated that one of the objectives of the strikes will be "to eliminate threats to the Israeli home front, with an emphasis on missile launchers and unmanned aerial vehicle bases."
Currently, no missiles have been fired towards Israel, but security officials estimate that an Iranian response could occur within hours.
