Pope Francis' health condition has worsened today, after the Holy Father suffered an asthma attack.
According to a statement from the Vatican, Pope Francis is in critical condition and had to be put on oxygen equipment today.
As reported by the Ansa news agency, today's blood tests also showed a lack of platelets, linked to anemia, which required a blood transfusion. The 88-year-old pope was hospitalized for more than a week after suffering from pneumonia.
"The condition of the Holy Father continues to be critical. The Pope is not out of danger. This morning Pope Francis suffered a prolonged asthmatic respiratory crisis, which also required the application of high-flow oxygen," the Vatican announced.
The statement says that due to the situation, a medical prognosis cannot be made with certainty regarding the course of the Pope's illness. According to doctors, his life remains in danger.
