A member of the European Parliament claims that Donald Trump has given Europe three weeks to sign the "surrender" of Ukraine.
Earlier this week, the United States and Russia began peace negotiations in Saudi Arabia without inviting Kiev to the negotiating table.
As the conflict approaches its fourth year, Trump appears eager to reach a peace deal as quickly as possible and is pressuring Ukraine to accept a negotiated pact without its involvement - an option unthinkable for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
In a post shared on X, Mika Aaltola, a Finnish MEP from the European People's Party, wrote that the United States had issued an ultimatum to the European Union to "accept the terms of Ukraine's surrender."
The Nordic politician was referring to the bilateral agreement being negotiated exclusively between Washington and Moscow. "Trump prioritizes Russia's security concerns now and in the future. Let them sort out their own mess. We have three weeks," was his message, quoted by Newsweek.
U.S. officials have said that both sides in the conflict will have to make concessions, but have not offered details on what concessions might be in store for Russia. If the Kremlin is ready for a deal, it appears willing to impose big conditions.
The worst-case scenario for Ukraine and its European allies is that Washington would agree to a condition of this kind.
