Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Donald Trump's 'unpredictability' will lead to the end of the war in Ukraine.
According to Zelensky, the nature of Donald Trump, who will be inaugurated as the president of the United States on January 20, can help end the war in Ukraine in 2025.
“Donald] Trump could be decisive in this fight. He can help us stop Vladimir Putin. He is very strong and unpredictable," the Ukrainian president said in a televised interview, believing the US president-elect "really wants to end the war."
"I would really like to see this unpredictability of President Trump applied to Russia," he added.
On the Ukrainian side, the arrival of Donald Trump in the White House raises hopes for strong decisions after almost three years of Russian occupation, but also fears of a decline in American financial and military support, which the Republican criticized many times.
Volodymyr Zelensky has long refused to negotiate an end to the war with Vladimir Putin, but has recently softened his position, notably by agreeing to temporarily abandon efforts to retake territories occupied by Russia in exchange for security guarantees from NATO and an increase in arms shipments to Kiev.
During the interview, he estimated that any security guarantee for Ukraine that does not include the United States would be a "weak guarantee".
While several European countries, including France, have presented the idea of deploying a possible military contingent in Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement.
Volodymyr Zelensky considered that such an initiative should not replace his country's membership in NATO.
"We would not like there to be only one or two places for this initiative. This initiative must absolutely go in the direction of NATO. This does not mean that the deployment of European forces precludes a future within NATO," he said.
Ukrainian forces have been struggling for months against the Russian army on the Eastern Front and are retreating in some sectors. The Ukrainian president thus understood that the situation is "really very difficult" and that the Ukrainian troops "are tired", especially due to the "lack of reserves and rotation" of the troops./ Pamphlet
