After Khamenei's assassination, Putin is scared, blocks Telegram, WhatsApp

Putin obsessed with "security levels" after assassination of Iran's Supreme Leader...

A digital darkness has fallen over Moscow, leaving only one element visible: the increasingly precarious psychological state in which Vladimir Putin seems to live.

For a week now, authorities have completely suspended mobile internet coverage throughout the Russian capital, a modern metropolis of over 13 million people. The decision was never officially announced, but was implemented suddenly, with the vague justification of “security” and without any set deadline.

The decision to almost completely suspend mobile internet in the Russian capital comes in a new context, following the dramatic developments in Iran and the assassination of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, which has shaken the security balance in the region.

The use of technology to track and eliminate high-ranking state figures has raised concerns in Moscow. Against this backdrop, Putin appears to have chosen an extreme approach: restricting digital communication to minimize risks to his security and that of the ruling elite.

For a week, a metropolis of over 13 million inhabitants has been operating under severe restrictions. Outside of Wi-Fi zones, citizens cannot make payments, use transportation apps, or communicate normally.

This latest move adds to a broader strategy of internet control. In recent months, the Kremlin has restricted or blocked platforms like WhatsApp, Telegram, and YouTube, replacing them with domestic alternatives under the direct control of Putin's inner circle.

The outage in Moscow represents a new escalation. Russia's economic capital has been hit directly, with entire activities that depend on mobile connectivity now paralyzed and losses estimated at hundreds of millions of euros.

In addition to security factors, the decision is also related to domestic political developments. With parliamentary elections approaching, authorities are expected to impose even tighter control over information, limiting access only to approved platforms.

In this context, the interruption of the internet is not just a technical measure, but part of a broader control strategy, where fear, security, and the interests of a narrow circle of power intertwine.

The cost of this approach falls on citizens, as Moscow experiences an abrupt return to a digitally restricted reality, in one of the most tense moments in recent years.
