Four of the victims have been identified by the Pentagon. The attack hit a military operations center near the port of Shuaiba, without warning and without a drone defense system.
The Pentagon identified four of the six American soldiers who lost their lives on Sunday in a drone attack attributed to Iran.
The victims are: Captain Cody Khork, 35, First Sergeant Noah Tietjens, 42, First Sergeant Nicole Amor, 39, and Sergeant Declan Coady, 20.
All four served with the 103rd Sustainment Command, a U.S. Army Reserve unit based in Iowa. The Pentagon has not yet released the identities of the other two soldiers who were killed in the same attack.
According to information published by CNN , the drone struck a temporary tactical operations center near the port of Shuaiba in Kuwait. At the time of the attack, soldiers were serving as part of the 1st Theater Sustainment Command.
Sources familiar with the situation described the building as a structure consisting of a large trailer with office space inside. The facility was surrounded by concrete barriers, typically used to protect military structures from car bombs or improvised explosive devices. However, the facility had no protection from aerial attacks by drones or missiles.
Sources confirmed that there was no siren or warning before the strike, which gave the soldiers no time to take shelter in the bunker.
The 1st Theater Sustainment Command, based at Fort Knox in Kentucky, coordinates the supply and logistical support of U.S. forces in the Middle East. The unit manages the transportation of ammunition, fuel, water, food, and repair parts, as well as port and military airlift operations in the region.
