Dissensions in the Alliance for Albanians, the Parliament of North Macedonia

The wing led by Mr. Taravari decided to join the Albanian opposition for the expected elections in the spring and this is causing divisions within the party. The ruling coalition has a fragile majority in parliament, but appears to have the necessary votes for cabinet changes.

The Ministers of Health and Information Society, Fatmir Mejhiti and Azir Aliu are expected to be dismissed from the parliament after aligning themselves with Mr. Taravari regarding his decision to join the Albanian opposition in the expected spring elections.

Ziadin Sela's wing has proposed Ilir Demir, an infectious disease doctor and current director of the Tetova Hospital, as the new minister of health, and Naim Bajram, a former party spokesman, as the minister of the IT Society.

The Prime Minister of the technical government, Talat Xhaferi, explained the legal obligations regarding the dismissal or replacement of ministers of a political entity in the government:

"Based on Article 94 of the Constitution of North Macedonia, I have the constitutional powers to present to the Assembly the proposal for the removal of the member/s of the government, which the Assembly decides. From the beginning, I want to emphasize that the proposal for impeachment of the ministers has nothing to do with the professional aspect of their preparations. I have special respect considering that I also have compatriots (from Gostivari) and I have continuously followed them and know their professional preparation. The force of the law says that there cannot be two opposition entities in the composition of the government; and this is the basic reason for which the proposal (for impeachment) is before you ," said Mr. Xhaferi.

The dismissal and approval of new ministers requires a majority of 61 deputies out of 120 in the parliament. The parliamentary majority, according to the coordinator of the legislators of the Alliance for Albanians (ASH), Adnan Neziri, has the necessary votes for this.

" We have the majority and this work will be done today, while the procedure depends on the duration of the deputies' speeches" , said Mr. Neziri in a press conference.

Over thirty MPs have appeared for a speech on the matter.

On the other hand, the wing of Mr. Arben Taravari last night in Kumanovo gathered in a gathering with supporters and delegates of the party's Assembly to confirm the decision of the head of the Alliance to join the coalition with the Albanian opposition parties which make up what is known as the Movement European for Change.

Mr. Taravari said that the delegates officially decided that the party should join the opposition, but Mr. Sela's side says that the necessary majority of delegates did not participate in the meeting and calls the decision illegitimate. This wing is expected to convene the party assembly tomorrow night in Skopje to take further decisions.

Mr. Ziadin Sela and his side, including six of the eight legislators of the Alliance for Albanians as well as the Minister of Justice, say that all the governing bodies of the party have been ignored, as their idea was for the party to stand alone in the May 8 elections. .

The clashes in the Alliance for Albanians began after a meeting in Pristina called by Prime Minister Albin Kurti with the leaders of the Albanian opposition parties in North Macedonia, where Mr. Taravari, whose party continues to be part of the governing coalition in Skopje, also participated. A few days after this meeting, Mr. Taravari announced the decision on Facebook to join the opposition.

Clashes deepened even more among the leaders and high exponents of the party, while it was also announced about a physical incident among its activists. Afterwards, a bullet was found in the yard of Arben Taravri's house, as a message threatening his life, while the law enforcement authorities have not yet discovered the author of this crime.

However, the divisions within the Alliance for Albanians seem to harm the party itself, and according to some analysts, it may go towards extinction. ASH is currently the second largest Albanian party in North Macedonia, after DUI./ VOA
