Polish farmers, in particular, have been vocal about the impact of cheap food imports from neighboring Ukraine. In the western Polish city of Poznan, a large number of farmers protested, driving tractors through the city.
They protested by lighting flames, waving Polish flags and signs and carrying a wheelbarrow full of manure to the steps of the regional government building. Szymon Kosmalski, a 39-year-old farmer, blames imported products for lowering prices to a level that does not allow him to cover production costs.
" The goods enter unchecked. We are absolutely against this and advocate for the immediate return of the customs duties that existed before the war and the control of what comes in , "said Kosmalski.
The Solidarity farmers' union, which announced the protests last week, said that in addition to blocking Ukrainian border points, they plan road blockades across Poland until March 10.
