Talks between Ukraine and Russia, held today in Abu Dhabi with the mediation of the United States of America, in an effort to advance towards a possible peace solution, have concluded.
As during the meetings the previous day, very few details were made public regarding the concrete content of the discussions.
According to a spokesman for the UAE government, the talks focused on the “key elements” of the US-proposed peace framework, a plan initially drafted by Washington and Moscow and then revised by the US in cooperation with Europe.
The spokesman said the meetings involved “ direct engagement” between Russian and Ukrainian officials and took place in a “constructive and positive atmosphere .” This could mean that representatives from both countries were present in the same room, although this has not been officially confirmed.
Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Saturday that Moscow remains open to continuing dialogue, Russian state news agency RIA reported.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the process as “constructive,” saying that during the trilateral talks “a lot was discussed.” According to him, the main focus was on possible parameters for ending the war.
" I highly appreciate the understanding of the need for American monitoring and supervision of the process of ending the war and ensuring real security, " Zelensky said.
He added that, if there is a willingness to move forward, further meetings could take place as early as next week.
" Ukraine is working for peace and security. Thank you to everyone who is helping ," the Ukrainian president concluded.
