Israel has launched a broad offensive against Hamas, but Israel risks Western support if it goes too far with its response.
The Israeli military has a crude phrase for what they do in Gaza - they call it "lawn mowing". They attack Hamas command and control sites and weapons storage sites. But this time, apparently, Israel will not stop there.
The war will be bloody and horrific for the citizens of Gaza. Israeli tactics will test the "unwavering" support of its allies.
It is worth noting that Israel's announcement that it will cut off electricity, water and food supplies to Gaza has not yet drawn condemnation from Israel's allies. Two million people live in Gaza. Half of them are children.
Article 55 of the Geneva Convention states: "The Protecting Power shall at all times be free to verify the condition of food and medical supplies in the occupied territories, except in cases where temporary restrictions are necessitated by imperative military requirements."
For Israel, the word "except" is key. Especially at a time of such global uncertainty (Russia/Ukraine, migration, changing global politics) - Israel's allies would rather manage a crisis they have seen before than deal with wider crises that they change everything./ SkyNews
