South Africa has filed an urgent request for additional measures in the genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel.
She asked to act as soon as possible, as she emphasized that the damage being caused to the Palestinian people is irreparable.
" The situation brought about by the Israeli attack on Rafah and the extreme danger it poses to humanitarian supplies and basic services in Gaza, to the survival of the Palestinian medical system and to the very survival of Palestinians in Gaza. It is not just an escalation of the prevailing situation, but the facts arise new ones that are causing irreparable damage to the rights of the Palestinian people in Gaza ," the court said in a statement, citing South Africa's request.
We recall that on March 28, the ICJ issued additional temporary measures against Israel in light of the famine that "settled" in Gaza. It followed the court's initial ruling in January, ordering Israel to "take all measures" to prevent genocide after South Africa accused Israel of violating international laws on genocide in its war on the enclave.
The ICJ rejected Israel's request to have the case dismissed, saying there was a "credible" case of genocide, but the court stopped short of ordering Israel to stop the war as South Africa had requested.
