A major search and rescue operation is underway in the English Channel after a boat capsized.
According to the information, 10 people lost their lives.
The rescue operation is taking place off the coast of Le Portel, a town of around 9,000 south of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
A spokesman for the French coastguard has confirmed that more than 50 people have been rescued and are in need of medical treatment, while 70 people are believed to have been on the boat.
Tens of thousands of migrants, many fleeing wars and poverty in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, have reached Britain in recent years by crossing the English Channel in small boats on dangerous journeys organized by people-smuggling gangs.
Other European countries, including Austria and Germany, are also looking at deals to send asylum seekers abroad.
