Powerful explosions have been recorded on two tankers carrying Russian oil.
The incident occurred near the coast of Turkey.
The explosions were almost simultaneous, destroying two tankers today, which have been sanctioned for transporting Russian oil.
The two ships, part of the so-called "shadow fleet", were near the coast of Turkey in the Black Sea.
These are the Gambian-flagged ships Kairos and Virat, which were heading towards Novorossiysk.
The former has been sanctioned by the EU and the UK, while the latter by the EU and the US. The Virat appears to have been stationary in the western Black Sea for most of 2025.
Photos show a thick cloud of smoke rising from one ship and flames from the other. Turkish authorities have confirmed the explosions. It is not clear if there are any injuries.
