Meeting with "Russians" on the horizon; Zelensky reveals secret diplomatic plan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has declared a new "peace path" for Ukraine, announcing a series of international meetings that will culminate, he said, with a possible meeting with Russian representatives.
In a long message on his official Telegram channel, he presented a detailed calendar of future diplomatic steps, emphasizing that everything will develop "step by step", with the involvement of the US, European countries and, in the final stage, Russia.
“ Rustem Umerov has contacted all national security advisers, American and European; I think the meeting will be held in Ukraine ,” Zelensky writes. After this technical-level meeting, he aims to gather European leaders in an expanded format called the “Coalition of the Willing Plus.” According to him, these talks will prepare the ground for a meeting with former US President Donald Trump and key EU leaders.
Zelensky considers the diplomatic path inevitable. “ There is no alternative to peace. Together with the Americans, we share the conviction that this war must be ended through diplomatic pressure on Russia. If this does not happen, the war will continue ,” he warns, adding that in any case Ukraine will continue to be supported by the West if it is still on the defensive.
A key element of this diplomatic offensive is the referendum that Zelensky proposes to approve a 20-point peace plan, drawn up together with the US and European partners. He calls the step “the strongest historical signature” on the document. “ This will not be a decision of one person or 450 deputies, but of millions of people,” he emphasizes. However, the referendum is contingent on a 60-day ceasefire, which Moscow refuses to grant. “Russia wants to continue the pressure with missiles and artillery; this is what we are fighting for ,” Zelensky adds.
The Ukrainian president has also commented on the Russian position on Donbass, being blunt: " It is not new that Russia wants Donbass. In their dreams, they would like us not to be on our territory at all. But we have our land, our integrity, and we will act in the interests of Ukraine ."
Another key point in his strategy is the reconstruction of the country. Zelensky has announced that agreements have been secured for compensation from frozen Russian assets in Europe. “ We will receive 100 billion euros over the next two years, in equal installments. If there is no war, these funds will go to reconstruction. If not, they will be used for defense ,” he declared.
