Hospitalized for 2 weeks, the Vatican provides details about the Pope's

Pope Francis, who has been hospitalized for more than two weeks and is battling double pneumonia, is in stable condition after spending "a quiet night."

In the latest update on the health of the 88-year-old leader of the Catholic Church, the Vatican announced that the Pope is continuing to rest and his condition appears stable.

Yesterday evening, the Vatican said the Pope was receiving oxygen, but had no fever, was eating, conscious and praying.

His hemodynamic parameters - related to blood circulation - are also stable and the Pope does not have a high white blood cell count, which often indicates an infection, the Vatican said, adding that the prognosis, as in previous days, remains "reserved."

Francis, who leads 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, was admitted to Rome's Gemelli hospital on February 14 with bronchitis that quickly developed into pneumonia in both lungs.

Last weekend, the Vatican reported that he was in "critical" condition after suffering a major respiratory attack, prompting concerns about the Pope's condition.

After a series of reports that his condition had improved, the Vatican said on Friday that Francis had suffered an isolated respiratory crisis.

Catholics and others around the world have been praying for the health of the Pope, who has led the Church for almost 12 years.

Believers have repeatedly gone to the Gemelli hospital and prayed for the Pope, leaving written messages for him, including a poster created by children.

The Pope has faced several health problems in the last two years. He is prone to lung infections because he had part of his lung removed when he was young.
