NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia is continuing its efforts to weaken Ukraine through continued attacks, but stressed that the Ukrainian people have shown that they will not surrender.
In a public statement, Rutte first spoke about the Alliance's commitment to increasing defense spending, welcoming the progress achieved by member countries in this regard.
Referring to his recent visit to Ukraine, he said he had seen firsthand the consequences of what he described as "merciless attacks" by Russia.
"President Putin is trying to break the Ukrainian people, hoping to weaken their resolve. But Ukraine and the Ukrainian people have repeatedly shown that they will not be broken," Rutte said.
Rutte stressed that Ukraine cannot bear the burden of war alone and guarantee peace without the support of international partners. According to him, the role of NATO and allies remains essential in strengthening Kiev's defense capabilities.
In this context, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov is expected to participate in the NATO ministerial meeting to be held tomorrow. The focus of the discussions will be on how allies can increase and make their support for Ukraine more effective.
