The toll from the 6.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Afghanistan is increasing.
At least 622 people were killed and more than 1,500 others injured in the earthquake, Afghanistan's Taliban-run Interior Ministry said.
The 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck the northeastern province of Kunar, near the border with Pakistan, at around 11:47 p.m. local time (8:17 p.m. UK time) on Sunday.
It struck 17 miles east-northeast of the city of Jalalabad in Nangarhar province, the U.S. Geological Survey said. It was five miles deep; shallow earthquakes tend to cause more damage.
Rescue teams rushed to reach remote areas in the country's eastern provinces after the earthquake.
At least three villages were destroyed in Kunar province, with significant damage to many others, the health ministry said.
