White House senior adviser Jared Kushner presented an ambitious US-backed plan for the reconstruction of Gaza on Thursday, linking reconstruction to the complete demilitarization of Hamas and unveiling what he called a phased “master plan” that would begin in Rafah and extend northward across the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at the signing ceremony of President Donald Trump's newly created Peace Board at the World Economic Forum, Kushner said the next phase after the ceasefire would focus on governance, security and economic reconstruction, insisting there was no "plan B."
The plan seems too good to be true, seaside resorts, high-speed trains, smart electrical grids powered by artificial intelligence: from a massacred strip of land, Trump and Kushner's Gaza would be transformed into a luxurious enclave in the Mediterranean. A "real estate," as the American president himself called it, that would be coveted by the richest people on earth.
The reconstruction will be carried out in four main phases. Initially, large parts of Rafah and Khan Younis will be rebuilt with the construction of large residential and industrial areas, including data centers, parks and sports facilities, highways and rail networks.
In the next two phases, construction of the two cities will be completed before the reconstruction of Gaza City begins in the fourth phase.
Kushner also gave a series of figures for the Gaza of the future. In Rafah, for example, over 100,000 homes, 200 schools, 180 cultural and religious centers, and more than 75 medical facilities and hospitals will be built. The entire coastal strip, highlighted in pink on the map shown by Kushner, will see the rise of approximately 180 towers for “coastal tourism.”
The latest skyscrapers and facilities will house restaurants, hotels and recreational centers, transforming Gaza into a Las Vegas of the Middle East. In the south, near the border with Egypt, the Rafah crossing will be flanked by an airport, a port and two giant logistics centers for storing and transporting goods.
The goal is for the Belt to also become a key hub for trade, energy, and digital infrastructure.
