Pakistan has conveyed to Iran a US proposal to end the war, and both Pakistan and Turkey could serve as venues for talks aimed at reducing tensions in the Persian Gulf, a senior Iranian official told Reuters on Wednesday.
The statements, made on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue, are one of the few signals that Tehran may be willing to consider diplomatic initiatives. Officially, however, Iran continues to deny that it is in negotiations with the Donald Trump administration.
The Iranian source did not provide details on the content of the proposal transmitted through Pakistan and did not clarify whether it is related to the 15-point US plan, which has been reported by various media outlets, including Reuters. According to the same source, Turkey is also contributing to efforts to end the conflict, while Ankara and Islamabad remain possible options for conducting negotiations.
Meanwhile, oil prices fell and international markets recovered after reports that the US had sent Iran a 15-point plan. Investors are hoping for an end to the conflict, which has lasted almost four weeks, caused thousands of casualties and shaken the global energy market.
