Oil artery reopens, traffic in the Strait of Hormuz increases significantly

After weeks of tension and blockade, a significant increase in maritime traffic has been observed in the Strait of Hormuz, marking the first major movement of ships since the conflict began seven weeks ago.

Monitoring data from the MarineTraffic platform shows that a tanker convoy passed through this strategic route this morning. The group included four liquefied natural gas (LNG) vessels, as well as several oil and chemical tankers.

Meanwhile, another group of ships appears to be organizing in the opposite direction, signaling a gradual return to traffic in this vital corridor for global energy trade.

This development represents a significant change compared to the previous situation, when traffic was minimal and only a few ships dared to pass through the main sea lane.

Although Iran and US President Donald Trump earlier declared that the Strait had reopened, actual ship movements were limited. Most vessels remained stranded on both sides of the waterway due to the dangers created by the outbreak of the conflict.

The Strait of Hormuz is considered one of the most important arteries of the global economy, as under normal conditions, about a fifth of the world's oil supply passes through it, with over 100 ships per day.

Tehran earlier took steps to close this waterway at the beginning of the war, causing major concerns in international energy markets.
