The death of Amy Eskridge, a researcher based in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2022 has now resurfaced as the 11th case in a long list of scientists who have died or gone missing in the United States in recent years.
Her death has sparked renewed interest, as at least ten other recent cases involving people linked to US military, nuclear and space research have raised questions about whether a pattern exists.
Donald Trump said he "just came out of a meeting" on the issue and promised a response within a few days, calling the situation "pretty serious."
"I hope it's a coincidence, but we'll find out within the next week and a half," Trump told reporters, according to Fox News.
For her part, White House press secretary Caroline Levitt wrote on X that the White House investigation will examine “every aspect.” “Given the recent and legitimate questions about these troubling cases, as well as President Trump’s commitment to the truth, the White House is actively working with all relevant agencies and the FBI to comprehensively review all cases and identify any common ground that may exist. No details will be left out in this effort, and the White House will provide updates as they become available,” she said.
Although officials have not confirmed any connection between the cases, the timing and the individuals' connections to advanced research fields have prompted growing public attention and speculation.
Eskridge died on June 11, 2022, in Huntsville, Alabama, at the age of 34. Her death was reported as a self-inflicted gunshot wound, although limited details were released, according to Fox.
Eskridge co-founded the Institute for Exotic Science and described her work as focused on experimental propulsion concepts, including what she said was research into "antigravity."
"We discovered antigravity and our lives became hell and people started sabotaging us," she said in a 2020 interview with YouTuber Jeremy Rys, as reported by Fox.
"It's terrible. If you stick your neck out in public, at least someone will notice if you cut off your head. If you take a risk in private, they'll bury you. They'll burn your house down while you're sleeping and it won't even be on the news."
In the same interview, she described what she described as growing pressure around her work: “I have to keep publishing, because the longer I delay, the worse it gets,” she said, noting that it was “getting more and more aggressive.”
In presentations and interviews, Eskridge also said that researchers working on unconventional technologies may face pressure to withdraw their work from the public domain, describing what she saw as a pattern in which scientists who announce major discoveries "disappear" from the public domain or stop publishing.
The Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) told Fox News it is investigating the deaths and disappearances: "NNSA is aware of reports involving employees of our laboratories, facilities, and sites and is investigating the matter."
There is no publicly available evidence linking Eskridge's death to the cases, and authorities have not shown any connection between her work and the circumstances of her death.
Her case has also been the subject of speculation in online and alternative technology communities, with some commentators raising questions about the circumstances of her death. However, these claims remain unconfirmed and unsupported by official findings.
