After a day full of changes in his cabinet of ministers, Rishi Sunak gave a speech to the public where he talked about his foreign policy vision.
He said now was a moment for "moral clarity" and the UK and its allies would outmaneuver opponents with conviction.
" In these perilous times, we are not only defending a better vision of the future against those who would destroy it, we are pooling our expertise, our people and our alliances to bring that future to life. So, we will continue to stand for what is right...and show that our values will prevail ," Sunak said.
In his speech at the Mayor's Banquet, Rishi Sunak also referred to his dramatic cabinet reshuffle today.
He said 2023 has provided one of the most significant years for British foreign policy...in no small part because of James Cleverly.
Cleverly moved out of the foreign secretary's office today to replace Suella Braverman as home secretary, while former prime minister David Cameron has returned to frontline politics as foreign secretary.
The move came as a surprise to many in Westminster, not least because the Cameron administration saw a "golden era" of UK-China cooperation, something Mr Sunak described as "naive" last year after rising tensions with Beijing .
Delivering a speech on foreign policy, Sunak said he has no doubt Cleverly will bring the same energy to his equally vital job as interior secretary. He added that in his new role, Cameron will build on everything that has been achieved this year.
