Romania scrambled two F-16 fighter jets due to the presence of Russian drones near its airspace last night, coinciding with the drones also intruding into Polish territory.
The Romanian Ministry of Defense reported in a statement that on the night of September 9-10, surveillance radar detected a group of drones in the area of Valcov, a Ukrainian town on the banks of the Danube, near the border with Romania.
Two F-16 fighter jets from the Romanian Air Force took off at 12:59 a.m. local time from Fetesti Air Base, in the southeast of the country, to investigate.
Also last night, Polish airspace was violated by a large number of Russian drones, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at the X on Wednesday, adding that drones that posed a direct threat were shot down.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Poland is ready to respond to any attack or provocation.
Polish forces scrambled NATO aircraft and put air defenses on high alert, while Warsaw's Chopin Airport was temporarily closed. Residents in Podlaskie, Mazovia and Lublin were asked to stay indoors as operations to find the downed drones continued.
