French President Emmanuel Macron has reacted sharply to the incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during an attack carried out by Russia against Ukraine.
In a reaction on social media, Macron described the event as "simply unacceptable" and strongly condemned Moscow's action.
"The incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace is unacceptable. I condemn it in the strongest terms. I call on Russia to put an end to this reckless escalation," the French President declared.
Macron stressed that France stands by Poland and its allies.
"I reiterate to the Polish people and their government our full solidarity. We will not compromise on the security of the Allies," he added, announcing that he would soon hold talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
Macron's reaction comes at a time when Poland and NATO are on heightened alert after the sensitive event, which marks a new precedent in the escalation of tensions in eastern Europe.
