US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that a drone hit a parking lot near the US Consulate building in Dubai, causing a fire in the area.
"As I arrived, I saw the media reports about the Dubai consulate. The last information I received seconds before the cameras were that a drone hit a parking lot near the Chancery building and caused a fire," Rubio stated.
He stressed that there are no reports of injuries among diplomatic staff. "All personnel are accounted for and safe. As you know, we have begun reducing staff from our diplomatic facilities earlier," he added.
Rubio also charged that American diplomatic missions are facing direct threats.
"Our embassies and diplomatic facilities are under direct attack by a terrorist regime," he said.
The consulate is located in a populated area of Dubai, near the British embassy and the Saudi consulate.
