The special services in Poland have discovered surveillance equipment in the environment where the ministers of the government cabinet were to meet.
Poland has seen increased espionage activity since it became an international hub for military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine following Russia's 2022 invasion.
The weekly cabinet meeting usually takes place in the prime minister's office in Warsaw, but Tuesday's session was moved to the southern city of Katowice because several ministers, including Prime Minister Donald Tusk, were to attend a major economic conference there.
"The State Protection Service, in cooperation with the Internal Security Agency, discovered and dismantled equipment that could be used for eavesdropping," security services spokesman Jacek Dobrzynski wrote on X, adding that the services are conducting further activities in the matter. .”
Dobrzynski said the devices were found during a routine security sweep of the room. Poland's Internal Security Agency is now investigating what the devices were and who might have installed them.
