Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said the country does not seek an endless war with Iran and any decision to end the fighting would be made in coordination with the United States. He avoided setting a clear deadline for ending the conflict.
During a conference in Jerusalem alongside his German counterpart, Saar stressed that military operations will continue for as long as Israel and its allies deem it necessary.
"We will continue until the moment when we and our partners assess that it is time to stop. We are not looking for an endless war," he declared.
The conflict between Israel, the United States and Iran, which has entered its 11th day, has escalated tensions across the Middle East. Iranian attacks have hit several countries in the region, including the United Arab Emirates, while Israel has launched operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon and targets inside Iran.
Saar stressed that Israel's objective is to eliminate the threats that Iran poses to the security of the Jewish state, especially with regard to its nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
He also described Mojtaba Khamenei, Iran's newly appointed supreme leader and son of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as an extremist figure. According to Israeli authorities, Khamenei was killed by the Israeli army on the first day of the war.
According to Saar, military operations are also aimed at creating conditions so that the Iranian people can "regain their freedom," although he acknowledged that such a change may not occur during the war, but at a later stage.
Meanwhile, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, who is the first senior foreign official to publicly visit Israel since the conflict began, said Europe is increasingly concerned about the escalation of the war.
According to him, Israel and the United States remain open to a diplomatic solution, but such an agreement would require Iran to accept restrictions on its nuclear program, ballistic missiles and support for regional militias, conditions that Tehran has so far shown no willingness to accept.
