US President Donald Trump held a long phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his flight to Washington DC.
The news was announced by White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt.
During a statement to reporters, Leavitt also announced that President Trump is currently in contact with NATO leaders, as part of his efforts to advance the peace dialogue in Ukraine and strengthen transatlantic cooperation.
The head of the White House returned to the US at around 08:30 (our time). The presidential plane Air Force One landed on the runway at Andrews base in Maryland. After exiting the plane, Donald Trump got straight into his car and made no comment to the journalists waiting for him there.
Recall that during his joint press conference with Putin, following their two and a half hour meeting, Trump pledged to hold phone calls with both Zelensky and NATO officials.
"I will certainly call our President Zelensky and tell him about today's meeting," Trump said during the briefing.
Zelensky's office confirmed that he had spoken with Trump on Saturday morning.
