The American and British military, with the support of Australia, Bahrain, Canada and the Netherlands, have attacked the Houthi rebel group.
US President Joe Biden says the strikes are in response to attacks by Iran-backed Houthis on ships in the Red Sea since November.
The US and Britain attacked 60 Houthi terrorist targets in 16 countries in Yemen.
"These strikes are in direct response to the unprecedented attacks by the Houthi (group) against international shipping in the Red Sea, including the use of ballistic missiles against ships for the first time in history," President Biden said in a press statement.
While the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said that the Houthi group's attacks have endangered American personnel, civilian sailors and partners of the United States, as well as endangered trade and threatened freedom of navigation.
On the other hand, Biden emphasized that "he will not hesitate to order further measures" to protect people and free trade.
"More than 50 countries have been affected by 27 attacks on international merchant ships. "Crews from more than 20 countries have been threatened or taken hostage in acts of piracy," President Biden said.
A statement issued after the attacks said the US and its allies aimed to "restore stability in the Red Sea".
On the other hand, a Houthi spokesman said they will retaliate and continue to target Israeli-affiliated ships in the Red Sea.
Iran has also condemned the US and British attacks.
"We assert that there is absolutely no justification for this aggression against Yemen, as there has been no threat to international shipping in the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea, and the attacks have hit and will continue to hit Israeli ships or those headed to ports of occupied Palestine", writes Mohammed Abdulsalam in "X".
The attacks were carried out with Tomahawk missiles launched from ships and warplanes, US officials told The Associated Press. Military targets included logistics centers, air defense systems and weapons depots, officials said.
The strikes were the first military response by the United States to an ongoing campaign of drone and missile attacks on merchant ships since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas. The coordinated military strike comes a week after the White House and a number of partner countries warned the Houthi rebels that they would face a military response if they did not stop the attacks.
