The United States is concerned that there could be attacks on American troops in the Middle East and that the war between Israel and Hamas could escalate further in the region, the US secretaries of state and defense said on Sunday.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the United States does not want to see a spread of the conflict.
Mr. Blinken told NBC television that the actions of Iran and the groups could prompt an escalation and that the United States hopes that Hamas will release more hostages.
" We are concerned about a possible escalation. In fact, from what we are seeing ... there is the possibility of a significant escalation of attacks on our troops and our citizens across the region," Mr. Austin said on ABC television .
" If any group or any country wants to expand this conflict and take advantage of this terrible situation, our advice is: don't try to do it ," he added./ VOA
