US Central Command today issued a warning to the Iranian people that Iran was putting them at risk by using "densely populated civilian areas" to launch drones and ballistic missiles, making those areas potential military targets.
"This dangerous decision endangers the lives of all civilians in Iran, as sites used for military purposes lose their protected status and may become legitimate military targets under international law ," the statement said.
A U.S. official said the U.S. military has seen several instances of Iran using mobile drones or ballistic missiles in densely populated civilian areas. Sunday's warning specifically mentioned Dezful, Esfahan and Shiraz as cities from which Iran has used crowded areas to launch drones or missile attacks.
The official stressed that the warning should not be understood as if the US military is preparing to attack the sites mentioned, but the notice also specifies that the US “cannot guarantee” civilian safety at or near facilities used for military purposes. Sunday’s warning was intended to let Iran know “we see what you are doing,” the official said, and to tell the Iranian people that your government is doing this to you, putting you in danger.
" US forces strongly urge civilians in Iran to stay home. The Iranian regime is knowingly putting innocent lives at risk ," the statement said.
