Israeli and Western media are reporting that Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of Ali Khamenei, has been mentioned as a possible successor to the leadership of Iran following recent developments related to the US and Israeli attacks on Iranian territory. Authorities in Tehran have not yet made an official announcement on the matter.
According to reports, Mojtaba Khamenei is considered an influential figure in the inner circle of power and is known for his conservative views. The post of supreme leader runs Iran's political and military structure and has been in office for more than four decades.
Reports also mention that several members of his family, including his mother, wife, and a sister, were killed in the recent attacks, while Mojtaba Khamenei was not at the scene.
Data published in a Bloomberg investigation shows that he owns two apartments in the Kensington area of West London. The properties are located on the upper floors of a building overlooking the Israeli Embassy and are estimated to be worth more than £50 million.
The apartments are located near Kensington Palace, the official residence of Prince William and Kate Middleton. According to property documents, Mojtaba Khamenei purchased the properties in 2014.
Further investigations have identified a wider portfolio of London real estate. Through a company registered in the Isle of Man, he is linked to the ownership of 11 flats in the Hampstead area. The total value of these properties is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of pounds.
The location of some of these properties near the Israeli Embassy has raised concerns about their possible use for surveillance.
The developments come as British police arrested four people in north London on suspicion of spying for Iranian intelligence services, allegedly collecting information about Jewish facilities and communities in the area.
Iranian authorities have not officially confirmed reports of changes in the country's leadership, while developments remain under the attention of the media and international institutions.
