Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has released images from the first phase of the prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, confirming news previously reported by the Russian side.
The Ukrainian president said 390 people were repatriated today in the first phase of a 1,000-for-1,000 prisoner swap agreed with Russia in Istanbul.
"We are bringing our people home. The first phase of the "1000 for 1000" swap deal has been completed. "This agreement was reached during the meeting in Turkey and it is vital that it is fully implemented," Zelensky said in a tweet.
He further writes that "today 390 people. On Saturday and Sunday, we expect the exchange to continue. Thank you to everyone who is helping and working 24/7 to bring Ukrainian men and women home."
"It is very important that all those who remain in captivity are returned. We verify every surname, every detail about every person. We will continue our diplomatic efforts to take such steps forward," the Ukrainian President writes.
