The former director at the US State Department while talking about the war in Gaza said that a ceasefire should be reached immediately.
Josh Paul said that at this moment the State Department will be concerned not only about the increasing number of deaths in Gaza, but also the risk that this war will continue for too long.
"I think there's a push to reach some sort of truce. The question is whether it's going to be temporary or permanent, and I think it should be permanent ," Paul said.
He stressed that it is in the interest of Israel and Hamas to have a ceasefire.
"We have seen so much suffering and the longer this goes on, the harder it will be to achieve post-conflict reconstruction. It will be harder to save the lives that are now at risk as a result of hunger, disease and the famine that is spreading in Gaza. I don't think there is any trust left between these groups when it comes to how they will act in the context of that ceasefire," he concluded.
