Powerful explosions in Tehran, state television hit

Powerful explosions rocked the Iranian capital, Tehran, this evening, shaking apartment windows in several areas of the city.

The explosions reportedly occurred at around 9:00 p.m. local time (17:30 GMT), at the same time as state television announced that the country was under attack. It is not yet clear what the exact target of the strikes was.

Iran's state broadcaster said parts of its headquarters had been hit by the "American-Zionist enemy." A presenter said that "a few moments ago" parts of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) complex had been attacked.

"Currently, the broadcast from Voice and Vision (IRIB) continues normally and our technical colleagues are assessing any possible damage," she added.

Earlier, there were rumors on social media that the IRIB building had been hit, but these were denied at the time by official sources.

This is not the first time the state broadcaster has been targeted. During the escalation of the Iran-Israel conflict in June 2025, the building was hit while a live IRINN news bulletin was being broadcast. At that moment, presenter Sahar Emami was heard shouting “God is great” amidst the explosions, before a second explosion and the partial collapse of the studio ceiling forced her to leave the studio.

Iranian authorities have not yet provided full details on possible damage or casualties, while the situation in the capital remains tense.
