Trita Parsi, executive vice president of the Quincy Institute in the US, says Donald Trump's demand that Iran completely give up uranium enrichment was the trigger that triggered a chain of events that culminated in the current conflict.
“ The Israelis knew very well that Iran would never accept such a capitulation – except in the event of war. Predictably and deliberately, this demand led to a complete impasse in the nuclear talks. This deadlock deeply angered Trump, who had no patience ,” Parsi wrote on the X platform.
He continues that then "Israel managed to convince Trump to give them the green light to bomb Iran, on the grounds that this would soften Tehran's negotiating position."
“ As expected, the bombing strengthened Iran’s position and forced it to retaliate with missiles against Israel. Also, as was predictable, within 24–48 hours, the Israelis returned to Washington and demanded that the US directly enter the war to end it ,” he said.
Parsi concludes that "many things indicate that this was the Israeli plan from the beginning."
" If Trump had not fallen into the Israeli trap and demanded 'zero enrichment,' we would most likely have a framework nuclear agreement today ," he concluded.
