The woman, who was five months pregnant, was found dead with head injuries in the house where she lived with her 38-year-old partner in Kolonos.
He called an ambulance, saying he found her unconscious on the stairs. However, an examination by the coroner revealed that something else had happened.
The woman's body suffered multiple blows, only one of which is justified by the fall. A neighbor of the couple describes scene after scene of the moments that appear to have taken place in the house.
"Before the accident, there had been an altercation. I heard a woman screaming and then a man shouting loudly: 'die like a dog', 'die like a dog' and then a big mess. And then a dead body."
To neighbors who saw the ambulance and asked what had happened, the 38-year-old gave a completely different version than the one he gave to the police.
"He simply told us that his girlfriend went to the bathroom, fell and hit her head, losing consciousness," neighbors said.
From the beginning, the 38-year-old, who works as a delivery man, was accompanied and gave explanations to the police officers, while his relatives were also called to the station to give statements. The arrest was later turned into an arrest.
Scenarios being investigated by authorities
From the coroner's observations, it appears that the girl was beaten. The scenarios that authorities are considering are either that she was beaten and placed on the stairs to make it look like an accident, or that she was beaten and thrown down the stairs.
The 31-year-old pregnant woman had grown up in a single-parent family and had recently lost her mother. She was trying to overcome the loss and was waiting for the child who would give her life again.
"She was a very good, educated girl, raised with a lot of respect and attention in a single-parent family. A very beautiful girl who never showed off her beauty. She was a person who always relied on her hands and feet, never on a man," said a family friend.
An autopsy will take place tomorrow, which will determine the 38-year-old's further criminal treatment.
