Only one in three Americans approve of the military attack launched by the United States against Venezuela to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro, while 72% do not hide their concern about the possibility of extending Washington's involvement in the Latin American country, according to a poll by the Ipsos institute for the Reuters news agency.
According to the results of the two-day poll released today, 65% of Republicans, 11% of Democrats and 23% of independents supported the military operation ordered by Donald Trump.
The poll showed significant support among Republicans for a U.S. foreign policy that involves exerting influence in neighboring countries. 43% of Republicans agreed with the statement that "the United States should pursue a policy of dominance in Western Hemisphere affairs," while 19% expressed opposition. The remainder either expressed no opinion or were skeptical.
In the same poll, which surveyed 1,248 Americans online, President Trump's approval rating rose to 42%, the highest level since October, three points higher than a December poll.
