Spain's Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albarez, announced that his country will reopen its embassy in Tehran, linking this step to its commitment to diplomatic efforts in the region.
The decision provides for the return of the Spanish ambassador and the resumption of the functioning of the diplomatic mission in the Iranian capital.
Albarez stated: "We have instructed our ambassador in Tehran to return, resume his duties and reopen our embassy, and we will participate in this effort for peace from every possible context, even from the Iranian capital itself."
The Israeli Foreign Ministry reacted immediately, publicly criticizing this decision and linking it to the stance towards the Iranian regime.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar declared on the social network X: " The terrorist state of Iran is again starting executions of citizens, protesters and dissidents. Spain is reopening its embassy in Tehran. Hand in hand, without shame. The farce of the century."
Spain's decision comes at a time of tension in the Middle East. Madrid has previously accused Israel of violating international law and called for a ceasefire, while also reacting to air operations in Lebanon.
Along the same lines, Spain has taken concrete measures, including closing its airspace to aircraft involved in the conflict, describing the intervention as reckless and contrary to international law.
